Stefanie began her teaching career as a secondary school teacher before joining Universiti Malaya (UM) as a language teacher. She is currently a professor at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at UM and an adjunct professor at RILCA, Mahidol University. She was previously the Dean of the Faculty, and Chair of UM’s Social Advancement and Happiness Research Cluster. Stefanie works in the following inter-connected areas: phonetics, varieties of English, and language use in multilingual contexts (including language education and language policy, minority and endangered languages). She is also involved in mentoring and capacity building for researchers and academic leaders.
